Jim Andrews has spent his entire life on and around the water. Son of a Coast Guard officer, Jim spent his childhood moving along the Atlantic coast, Gulf Coast, and Greater Antilles in the Caribbean. He attended the Coast Guard Academy and spent a 20-year career serving in the Active Duty Coast Guard, with 11 years of sea time in 4 different classes of cutters, as well as secondary career tracks in talent management and oceanography.
In his second career, he spent 11-years in the commercial maritime industry, leading the way in safety management, maritime human resources, finance and operations, and leadership in the harbor tug, tug+barge, harbor pilot, and mooring company segments, along with experience in maritime-related software development. He played a significant role in the improvement of the Bolivar Roads federal anchorages, mitigating the pandemic threat in Galveston County posed by the cruise industry, and the deepening of the Galveston Ship Channel. He is an MBA graduate of Rice Business School in Houston and was the 2016 recipient of the M.H. Wright Leadership Award. He holds an active US Coast Guard merchant mariner credential as a master 1,600-tons steam and motor.
